Hair for Hope Returns!

We are back with our only head-shaving campaign, Hair for Hope (HfH) in Singapore. As we celebrate our 20th Anniversary organising HfH, we are hoping to have at least 4000 participants to participate in our campaign and raise $3.8 million to support children and families impacted by cancer. Please support us and let’s get the ball rolling!

Advancing CCF’s work in Denmark!

The 6th International Conference on Practice Research in Social Work is presented by the CCF team, held in Denmark coming June 2023. Our research team our caregiver support services team will be sharing key insights to “Needs That Matter: Caregivers’ perception of their own needs as their child undergoes cancer treatment in Singapore.” The sharing will include evidence-based research on CCF’s programmes and services.

Increasing Awareness of International Childhood Cancer Day

“Caregiving often calls us to lean into love, we didn’t know is possible.” – Tia Walker.
On every 15th of February, we commemorated International Childhood Cancer Day (ICCD) where our young survivors paid tribute to families and caregivers for the positive impact they made in the lives of all children and adolescents with cancer. Our children made glove puppets which represented their loved ones, who cared for them and lifted their spirits during tough times. Their art pieces were displayed as art installations at NUH and KKH, in efforts to raise awareness for ICCD.

Survivors Employment Support

The first foray into the working world can be daunting and stressful for most of us. For some CCF survivors, it can be difficult to land employment due to health set-backs after childhood cancer.

With the introduction of Survivors’ Employment Support service in 2022, our beneficiaries could navigate these challenges and enhance their employment opportunities.

Two pilot initiatives under this service are the Heart Work Programme, a customised work skills training foundation programme that aims to impart different skillsets to our survivors and the Pre-Employment Workshop to equip survivors with knowledge that may improve their chances of securing employment. The first edition of pre-employment workshop focuses on how beneficiaries can kick-start their job search.

J.A.M.M

Join and Make Music (J.A.M.M), a weekly initiative at CCF Hangouts that provides opportunities experiencing the musical space created by the group.

Our youths gain social connection, attunement, alleviation of anxiety and shared experiences via the use of musical therapy techniques such as musical improvisation, song writing, receptive music listening, instrument playing, lyric analysis and musical storytelling. Our youth beneficiaries are able to join in the music sessions during their hospital visits.

Learning Journey to the Train Depot

Organised by Land Transport Authority (LTA), our beneficiaries were treated to an educational tour at Gali Batu Train Depot. They were travelled from Bukit Panjang Station into the depot where they watched as the train undergo washing followed by a sharing at depot workshops. The beneficiaries were “wowed” by the tour and learned about Singapore’s top public transport system.

Acknowledgements

We would like to show our appreciation for the following partners who have supported us!

Rongying, an aspiring five-year-old ballerina, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoid Leukaemia. She underwent surgery to install a port-a-cath to reduce the need for injections. CCF supported her through therapeutic play sessions involving toys such as a duck with a port-a-cath called “Ducky”. Despite becoming completely bald from chemotherapy, Rongying bravely returned to school and took a photo of herself to be displayed on her EZ link card. Her mother, Xiang Zhen, reassured her that she was okay.

Rongying's cancer journey impacted her family, with Xiang Zhen spending a lot of time at the hospital and her husband unable to work from home. CCF was there to support them, offering books and toys to help Rongying through her treatments. Now seven, Rongying is undergoing maintenance chemotherapy and is excited about the future, wanting to be a ballerina and dance on stage.
