PATRON’SMESSAGE
C
hildren’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) has come a
long way from its humble beginnings. Fueled by
passion and a strong conviction to improve the
quality of life of children with cancer and their families,
CCF has, over the years, strengthened its capabilities
by deepening and broadening its programmes and
services to better support our beneficiaries. Today, CCF
is an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, working
alongside itsmedical partners, in providing psychosocial
support to our beneficiaries.
Over the years as CCF’s Patron, I have always been
encouraged by the resilience of the children and families.
One inspiring example is Divesh, who was diagnosed
with Hodgkins Lymphoma at the age of 10, and suffered
a relapse when he was 17. Despite these challenges,
Divesh demonstrated a strong fighting spirit, and coupled
with loving support from his family, won the battle against
cancer. Divesh graduated as Singapore Polytechnic’s
valedictorian and recipient of the Lee Kuan Yew Award.
Today, he is pursuing his dreams of becoming an
aeronautical engineer with a scholarship at the Imperial
College of London.
I am proud to learn that our service evaluation last
year showed that 100% of the parents surveyed
were satisfied with the psychosocial support provided
byCCF.
Going beyond our core psychosocial services, as an
advocate of better patient care and treatment outcomes
for childrenwith cancer, 2015 saw theofficial launchof the
Tan Cheng Lim-CCF Professorship in Paediatric Oncology
in support of paediatric oncology research and education
aimed at improving the diagnosis, treatment and cure rate
of childhood cancers.
I know that CCFwill continue to explore and develop new
therapeutic interventions and psychosocial programmes,
and forge strategic alliances to provide the best support
and future for our childrenwith cancer and their families.
On behalf of CCF’s beneficiaries and their families,
I wish to convey my heartfelt thanks to all our partners,
donors, sponsors, volunteers, CCF Management
Committee and staff for their commitment and unwavering
support. Together, we can bring hope andmake a positive
and lasting difference in the lives of children and families
affected by childhood cancer.
