Therapeutic Group Work
aims to enhance patients’
overall coping with hospitalisation by providing patients
with an avenue to interact with one another, and
familiarising them with the hospital setting. Sessions
include activities such as Hospital Bingo, group games
and art makingwithmedical tools.
THERAPEUTICPLAY
Hospitalisation and cancer treatment can be an unnerving
and traumatic experience for children with cancer,
resulting in pangs of fear, uncertainty, anxiety and pain.
Tohelp childrenwith cancer copewithmedical treatments,
CCF social workers, counsellors and child life specialists
use Therapeutic Play and other interventions to help
them understand and cope with their medical condition
and experience.
Therapeutic Play helps the children and families develop
a sense of mastery over their life challenges and regain
some normalcy during the hospital experience. It is
also used to enhance the emotional, social, physical
and cognitive growth of the child during hospitalisation,
with special consideration given to the child’s stage
of development.
