ComfortDelGroTaxi, CabbyCare donates $50,000
in support of Hair for Hope
Back in 2000, they were a group of eight taxi drivers who
volunteered their free time to deliver bread, meals and library
books to the less fortunate.
The now 280-strong CabbyCare Charity Group, comprising
ComfortDelGroTaxi cabbies, has their eyes set on recruiting
250 drivers as shavees for the 15th run of Hair for Hope,
theChildren’sCancer Foundation’s iconic community outreach
event.
Tomark CCF's 25th anniversary celebrations, CabbyCare will
donate $25,000 to Hair for Hope, while ComfortDelGro Taxi is
matching that amount dollar todollar, bringing the total amount
to $50,000.
This is the largestamount thatCabbyCareandComfortDelGro
Taxi aredonating toCCF. Inall,CabbyCareandComfortDelGro
Taxi have contributed a total of $140,000 toCCF thus far.
The volunteer group first participated in Hair for Hope 2014
where 55 cabbies participated as shavees. In the following
year in 2015, that number grew to 70.
A record 165 shavees fromCabbyCare participated inHair for
Hope in 2016. This year, CabbyCare took the collaboration
further by signing up as the Official Partner of Hair for Hope
2017.
“It is heartening to see more and more cabbies sign up for
Hair for Hope every year,” said CabbyCare Chairman, Mr
Kanapathy Shunmugam.
“Thisyear, our aim is to recruit 250cabbies tomarkCCF’s25th
anniversary and to show our support towards Hair for Hope,”
added Mr Shunmugam. “By shaving our heads, we hope that
the children and their families know that we are with them in
this challenging journey.”
CabbyCare cabbies also provide free trips to beneficiaries of
CCF's WishLink Project, a programme that aims to fulfill the
wishes of children with poor prognosis, or who suffer from a
relapse, and/or are referred for palliative care.
“I am very proud that our cabbies have contributed to the
Children’s Cancer Foundation with their heart, soul and
time,” said Mr Ang Wei Neng, Chief Executive Officer of
ComfortDelGroTaxi.
“This is the fourth consecutive year that we are organising
Hair for Hope and it will not be the last. We hope our small
contributions will bring some cheer to our little friends at the
Foundation,” MrAng added.
“As the saying goes, 'After every storm, there is a rainbow',”
saidMr ChngMeng Hoe, Vice Chairman of CabbyCare’s Hair
for Hope organising committee. “We want to let the children
know that it isOK to be bald and not to despair, as there is still
hope. We want to give them the strength and the will to fight
this battle.”
