The 15
th
run of Hair for Hope kicked off at the
satelliteevent heldat KongMengSanPhor Kark
SeeMonastery (KMSPKS) on 30April 2017.
Among the 388 shavees at KMSPKS was
48-year-old Mr Victor Kuik Yoong, who shaved
for the first time, in memory of his younger
brother who succumbed to childhood cancer at
theageof 17more than27 yearsago. Recalling
the stress and heavy burden of caring for his
16-year-old brother, Victor hoped to convey
the message that “when a child gets cancer,
everyone in the family is affected”.
Another shavee was 53-year-old Ms Amy Low
Wai Meng, who made a bald statement for the
fifth consecutive year as she believed in seizing
every opportunity to contribute, simply because
she could.
When she first found out about Hair for Hope
througha friend,Amy intentionallygrewher hair
for a year in preparation for her first shave and
cried tears of joy when she finally did it. Her
first shave was even more meaningful when
she found out that one of her customers at
her optical business outlet was suffering from
childhood cancer.
Each time when Hair for Hope drew near,
Amy would intentionally perm and colour her
hair, to make the shaving experience even
more memorable. She explained, “When
my customers see my nicely done up hair,
they would compliment me and it gives me a
chance to share about Hair for Hope and seek
their support.”

47-year-old Mr Guek Peng Siong started
volunteering at CCF in 2006 by helping out
at the children’s camps. He then went on to
volunteer as a photographer in 2010, helping to
take photos during CCF events, including Hair
for Hope. This year, Peng Siong finally plucked
up the courage to go bald to tell children with
cancer that they were not alone in their battle
against the life threatening illness.
