(PizzaBakingSession) -September
One of our children’s favourite activity is baking!
And so in September, we conducted pizza baking
sessionwith the kids in the playroom. As it is their first
time baking a pizza from scratch, the children were
all already seated excitedly even before the baker
arrives. The children were not the only ones who
enjoyed the baking, the caregivers also participated
enthusiastically throughout the session. They were
sharingandenquiring from thebakersabout the recipe
while the children kneaded and decorated their pizzas
with their favorites toppings. Some of the caregivers
even took out a pen and notepad to jot down the steps
and recipes. At the end of the session, the parents and
children took photos of the end products and brought
them home to share with their families.
Primary6Values InAction (VIA)Project - Fun(D) Fair
As part of our annual project on Compassion (one of our core
values), Entrepreneur Day was held on 23 August 2016 at
Bishan Community Club. Our theme this year was “ADay in
Storyland” where we immersed into the storyland of Alice in
Wonderland, SnowWhite and theSevenDwarfs, Jack and the
Beanstalk, ThreeLittlePigs, Hansel andGretel, andGoldilocks
and theThreeBears.
This is our eighth year into this entrepreneurshipproject where
our K2 children learnt teamwork andmath concepts onmoney.
They were given the opportunity to learn and practise their
social skills toowhenmeetingandhandlingdifferent customers
as they were put in-charge of craft, food and game stalls with
the help of teachers and parent volunteers.
Annually our Primary 6 cohort organises a fundraising
activity known as Fun (D) Fair to foster the spirit of ‘Sharing
Is Caring’ among the pupils . The event helps to raise fund
forChildren’sCancerFoundation (CCF). It isagoodplatform
for pupils to exemplify our school’s core value “Willingness
to Lead and Serve” and our school motto “Service Before
Self”. We are also glad that our pupils embrace the values
of empathy, kindness and graciousness, and grow up to be
socially responsible individuals.
OurPrimary6cohort,with theguidanceof their teachers,also
underwent aseriesof lessons togainabetter understanding
of childhood cancer. Through these lessons, our pupils
becamemore aware of how cancer affects one’s life. They
were also introduced to the works of CCF. We focused on
sharing the meanings and values behind the community
project. Someof our students teareduponhearing storiesof
cancer patientsand thatmotivated them to sharewith fellow
schoolmatesonways tohelpcancerpatients.On theFun(D)
Fair Day, therewere different stalls put up by the Primary 6
pupils, twoCCAgroups, our Parents’ Support Group (PSG)
and somePrimary 4 pupils. Our pupils came upwithmany
ideas, to tie inwith the special themeand createawareness
of the cause.
Thisyear,wesuccessfully raised$10,000, withall proceeds
from the Fun(D) Fair going directly to CCF. We are happy
andglad that for thepast few years, our school hadadopted
CCF as the sole beneficiary of our fundraising projects. We
arehappy tobeable tosupportCCF in itsmission to improve
the quality of life of children with cancer and their families
through enhancing their emotional, social andmedical well-
being. We believe through this collaboration, our pupils will
learn to be more gracious and compassionate to those in
need. We believe every little effort counts and together we
canmakea difference in the lives of childrenwith cancer.

Children from all levels played a part too by making and
creating crafts of the chosen stories by the 4 centres: BE-
Thomson Blk144, 181, 197 and 197. There were different
games related to the story characters that reinforced moral
values. Many supportive parents also contributed many food
items and volunteered their time on this day.
This isalsoagoodopportunity to instill thevalueof compassion
andcaring for the less fortunate friendsaschildrenandparents
are aware that all the proceeds from the event will be donated
to the Children’s Cancer Foundation. A big thank you to all
children and parents for joining us in this memorable learning
journey that was filled with fun for a good cause! It remains
our belief that “No one can do everything but everyone can do
