“From the moment she learns she’s with child, a woman’s
wholeworld changes. Shebecomesmore than just herself; she
is now a mother too. But no matter how big you grow, you’re
always your mother’s little baby. Amother’s love can’t be seen
or heard; it must be felt with the heart. Mothers are like flowers
that are planted in our hearts, that bloom and fill our lives with
love as time passes,” saysMsGraceCiao, Director of Arts and
BeyondPte Ltd.
Through this initiative, a total donation of $1,363.60was raised
in support of CCF.
Climb4Cause
I had just finished scaling one of the peaks inTaiwanwhen
I decided to set a bigger challenge for myself – to ascend
Mount Kilimanjaro. A close friend suggested that I should
simultaneously fundraise for a charity and was quick to
recommended CCF as a beneficiary. I was already very
impressedwith thework that CCF is doing for childrenwith
cancer. However, when I came to know thatmy teammate’s
sonwas diagnosedwith cancer, the choice of raising funds
for CCF became a commitment andClimb4Cause became
mymission.
Toprepare for theexpedition, I startedmy intensive training
such as taking the stairs to get home and doing endurance
runs! Little did I know that no amount of training in
Singapore could have prepared me for the rough terrains,
extreme temperaturesand fatigue that I experiencedduring
the 19,341 feet climb across a span of seven days and six
nights between 30 June and 7 July 2016. Whenever I felt
likegivingup, I was remindedof the children’s courageand
my commitment to them. This was the only thought that
kept me goingwhenever I was on the brink of giving up.
The support and encouragement received from family,
friends and colleagues were phenomenal! Apart from
helping me raise $6,318 in donations, many shared that
they weremotivated to do something in their own capacity
forCCFaswell. Theentireexperiencehasgivenmea very
different perspective on life and sharpened my resolve to
make a sustainable difference to children with cancer and
their families.
