Thank you, Teachers!
To celebrate Teachers’ Day, PALS students came together on 26August 2016 to
make bath salts as gifts for their teachers.
The session startedwithPALS students learning about the different types of salts
and their respectiveeffects on thebody. For instance, theuseof Epsom salts can
help soothe and relax soremuscles! The children also learnt more about different
types of aromatherapy oil and their benefits.
The children listenedattentively so that they coulddecideon thebest combination
of salt and essential oil for their teachers. What wasmost heart-warming from the
session was that the students got to know their teachers a little better such as
their favourite colours and scent. Many of themmadeanextra jar for their parents
whom they also regarded as teachers in every step of their lives.
PALSwould like towishall our teachers ‘HappyTeachers’Day’ and thank them for
their contributions inhelping tomakeapositive impact in the livesof the students.
ArtsVolunteeringbyNAFAArts!
Since January 2013, volunteers from NAFAArts have been conducting monthly
art lessons for our children at PALS. The art lessons hope to foster students’
creativity and imagination. At the session held on 1 August 2016, the students
created three-dimensional objects using recycled materials. In teams of threes
and fours, they started by first drawing prototypes of rockets, castles, airplanes
and ships. They then triedbuilding thesemodels fromapileof recycledmaterials
provided by the volunteers.
Despite encountering challenges and difficultieswhile building their models such
as trying to stabilise their 3Dmodels, the children did not give up. Instead, they
used their creativityand improvisedon their designs tocircumvent thechallenges.
Some of the students even showed notable creativity by installing “pulley”
mechanicson theirmodels so that the ‘castle’ door couldopenand close!Another
team used their impressive knowledge of aircraft engines to build a plane. The
students loved the hand-mademodels somuch that they became their favourite
toys during recess!
