Story-tellingFun: The Island in
theCaldera
It was aprivilege tohaveauthor,Ms LinXueling, story-
tell her upcoming storybook release ‘The Island in the
Caldera’ to thechildrenatCCF@KKHon28September
2016. The story is about two sisters who are stuck in
a different world filled with ferocious tree dragons and
stinky giants. The young audience listened attentively
during the session, learning more about the diverse
cultures of people in Asia and about kinship, bravery
and the pivotal importance of strength of the heart
when faced with challenges. There was no doubt that
the children were awed by the story! Everyone went
homewith a bagful of goodies that day!
Thank you to the volunteers from BooksActually and
Ms Lin Xueling for sharing your love for books and
readingwith our children!
Weorganised this initiative toreachout tochildren
at CCFwith the gifts that we have. In the course
of running both BooksActually and publishing,
we have been given the opportunity to open up
“worlds” for other individuals through the act of
reading. Andmore often than not, reading is not
just a knowledge journey. It nourishes the being
and bring us to places not yet travelled, inspires
us togreater heights andoffers hopeevenwhen
there seems to benone.
–Kenny Leck, Founder of BooksActually
Reading and talking to children tickle the
imagination and the heart. They are curious,
clever kids who may be going through a tough
time, so if you can distract them andmake them
smileeven just for a littlewhile, it feelswonderful!
I think anyone who likes to laugh, listen and tell
stories should volunteer. Youwon’t regret it.

NDPMagicperformance
On 4 August 2016, CCF@KKH led our children in
celebrating our nation’s 51st birthday! Magician Kyle
from Kyle Ravin Productions visited the hospital and
put upa splendidperformance tobringencouragement
and smiles to our children. Many a time, children and
parents waited with bated breaths on what would
appear from hismagic tricks!
CCF@KKH would like to express our appreciation to
Kyle for volunteering his time to bring joy and
entertainment to the children at
the hospital.
CeramicPainting
Thanks to CCF volunteers Ms Rosemary Oh and her
friends, the children at CCF@KKH had the opportunity
to learnmore about ceramic painting on 26 July 2016.
A new experience for many, the session taught the
beneficiariesabout patienceand focus throughpainting
on a delicate art canvas. Rosemary also shared on the
different techniques of ceramic painting and why the
material needs to be fired under high temperatures so
it can be stronger, just as how adversity helps hone
character. The children are already looking forward to
the next session! Thank you Rosemary and friends
for the time and effort to put this session together for
our children!
